DESIGN BRIEF

After completing a book cover for Life Coach and Psychologist, Vivian reached out again to design a logo that resembled the brand of the book cover created. Filled with frank advice and inspiring stories, the book From Broken to Bonded, supplements Vivian’s business, Visions Coaching Services. During the book cover design, a brand was created with colors and a phoenix. Vivian had created a logo independently and wanted to incorporate this design. She asked for a logo similar to her book cover. To me, every design, course, writing piece tells a story, and for Vivian, this story was ‘rising from the ashes and healing’.

Client Created Logo

Book Cover

Objectives: Create a logo for Vivian’s Coaching Services that matches the book cover brand created previously.

Audience: Potential life coaching clients - women between the ages of 20-years-old and up.

Brand Identity: Clients ‘rising from the ashes’ of their past, healing, and strength.

Clear Deliverables: Logos for social media pages, websites, and paper products.

Timeline: Vivian asked for a two-week turnaround since her business would launch at the end of the month.

RESEARCH

Research showed that the phoenix is widely used for many logos, including coaching services. Most Phoenix logos included simplistic line art, bright colors, and, at times, implied motion. Examples are shown below.

DESIGN REVIEW

First Proof:

Client’s Top Three:

ITERATIONS

First Round Client Feedback:

  1. The client would like to include fire. (Fire was drawn and included with icon.)

  2. The client likes the ‘V’ with the wings. (Next proof included the ‘v’ with phoenix wings.)

  3. The client would like a more defined phoenix. (A more detailed phoenix was drawn.)

Second Proof:

Second Round Client Feedback:

  1. The client would like the fire separate from Phoenix. (Fire was separated from Phoenix.)

  2. The client would like to change Phoenix’s line of vision. (The phoenix was positioned to look up as representative of hope and growth.)

Third Proof:

Third Round Client Feedback:

  1. The client would like an even more defined Phoenix. (Even more detail was included to resemble the book cover.)

  2. The client would like to explore other color choices. (The orange color was revised to include a gold gradient with black for a more bold look.)

Fourth and Final Proof:

Wordmark

Brandmark

Icon

TEST

The client was thrilled with the fourth proof. Before finalizing and sending a package that included the CMYK and RGB watermark, icon, and brandmark in jpeg, pdf, and png, I tested the logos on three (due to time restraint) potential coaching clients.

Potential Visions Coaching Client Feeback:

  1. Logo is eye-catching.

  2. Gold color elicits feelings of hope and winning.

  3. Phoenix is detailed and distinguished.

  4. Feelings of trust garnered from the logos.

  5. One client preferred the earlier, more simplistic phoenix.

Once the testing concluded, the final package and the logo summary below was sent to the client.
